Objectives: This 30-hour online programme seeks to familiarize students with
different aspects of research such as literature, journals, and patents as well as some
of the software and online tools available. At the end of the course, participants will
be familiar to concepts such as research proposals, publications, impact factor,
plagiarism and make independent search and inquiries.

Contents: Research objectives, importance and approaches; Selecting research areas,
developing research plan and writing research proposals. Publications – types,
examples, structure, citations, impact factor, H-index; Patents – introduction and
types, intellectual property, copyrights and plagiarism; Conferences and scientific
community; Safety in chemical research – hazards and prevention; Software –
Introduction to Origin and EndNote. Online search engines – examples and
applications.
