About Course

Objectives:  To know and understand the intellectual property rights and their types. Copy right. Intellectual property act. The Laws governing IPR and organisations involved in IPR

Learning Outcomes: After completion of the course a participant must have learnt about IPR, its types, scope and objectives, its benefits, industrial importance and the laws governing IPR

Duration/Online: 30 hours interaction lectures Offline

Course Content:

Unit 1: The different types of Intellectual Properties, Why promote and protect intellectual property. What is a patent? What kind of protection does a patent offer? What rights does a patent owner have?  How to apply for a patent? How is a patent granted? What kinds of inventions can be protected?  What is a trademark? What does a trademark do? What kinds of trademarks can be registered? How is a trademark registered? What is an industrial design? Protection of Integrated Circuits layout design.  Geographical indications of goods. Biological diversity- Plant varieties and farmers rights. Undisclosed information. (10 hours)

Unit II: What is copy right?  Types: Writings, Paintings, Musical works, Dramatics works, Audio-visual works, Sound recordings, Photographic works, Broadcast, Sculpture, Drawings, and Architectural works etc. Plagiarism, Copyright law in India. World Intellectual Property Organization.  IPR Attorney. (10 hours)

UNIT-III: Case study (10 hours)

Testing/Evaluation pattern: Assignment (Descriptive type) 10 marks; Unit test (MCQ type) 10 marks. End semester Test (objective): 30 marks

Time line:  Wednesday and Friday 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm(OFFLINE)

Class Room: L 502 (LCRI BLOCK LECTURE HALL)

Eligibility: Any candidate who completed PUC / 10+2 equivalent is eligible to take the course.

Certificate: Digitally generated Certificates will be issued to students who have successfully completed the course by the college.
