Mr. Kiran Vati K is a Zoologist with a diverse background in various fields of biology, most notably entomology. He has an M.Sc in Applied Zoology and pursuing PhD in the same domain. His expertise also includes bioinformatics, plant tissue culture techniques, laboratory animal handling and nanofibers.
Beyond academia, Mr. Kiran Vati K promotes insect conservation and awareness among the public, through photography, campaigns and photo exhibitions. He has delivered 1 international and 15 guest talks at state levels, topics like the effect of climate, the role of insects in ecosystems, and environmental pollution, waste management.
He is involved in raising environmental awareness through various activities, such as implementation of rainwater harvesting setups, malaria awareness programs, beach cleaning and plantation drives. He has also been involved in green initiatives within college campuses and beyond, such as the documentation of bird and insect counts within the St. Aloysius College campus. He has also designed and built vermicomposting units.
He has received recognition for his contributions, including a UGC-BSR fellowship award and accolades for his research, and an Outstanding Young Faculty award for his contribution to the field of teaching, education and outreach efforts. His insect photographs have been featured in exhibitions and publications, including the Science Journal.
He has also published photo articles and translations in regional magazines and newspapers.
